Preparation

I find when cooking with kids preparation is king. Have everything you need in one place so you don't need to leave them alone

Make sure the surface your are preparing is clean and clear of anything you don't want to be covered in flour/sugar or butter

Measure our the ingredients on the scales. Best done without kids around as you find little fingers trying to help mean you will never get an accurate measure!!!! Now is a good time to put the oven on (190C/375F/Gas 5) a prepare the baking tray with foil/greaseproof paper.

Aprons on the kids keeps everything clean and for a little drama add a kids chefs hat. Don't forget to wash hands before you begin!!

Mix in the flour

Stir in the flour to get a smooth paste.

Now sprinkle some spare flour onto the roller and surface you are about to place the mixture onto to make sure nothing sticks

Turn on to a work surface and gently roll out until the paste is 1cm/½in thick

Cutting shapes and into the oven

Now cut out the shapes with easier shape cutters on a blunt knife and transfer onto the baking tray lined with either foil or greaseproof paper.

Before placing into the oven sprinkle with a little caster sugar.

Place into a hot oven (190C/375F/Gas 5) for 15-20 minutes into pale golden brown then take out and leave on the side to cool.

Now survey the mess you have made and clear up quickly before anyone notices :->
